Understanding ICT lab setup for CLIx program

The ICT Lab setup for CLIx is majorly using computers and peripherals. The computer either be a desktop or laptops are connected all together in a LAN setup to each other, having the same IP range via a switch in case wired or wifi router in case of wireless LAN setup. One (or two) of the computers with higher configuration (details provided in the requirement document) will act as a server machine and the remaining machine will act as a client machine. So the offline LAN setup follows a Client-Server architecture model where the server will host, manage and deliver the contents to the client machines as per the requests.requests.

The primary requirement for lab preparedness and maintenance is having the experience of using the computer, and mainly the basic knowledge about Ubuntu and Windows operating systems. Having any further proficiency will be an added advantage.With basic knowledge of computer know-how, the provided document and help resources will ease the setup and maintenance of the lab for daily usage and keeping it functional.

 

1.Lab preparation requirements

To prepare the lab, firstly the lab requirements need to be understood and make it available to start the process and have the setup in place.

Hardware 

  1. LAN Switch (with port equal to or more than the computers in the lab)
  2. Cat6 LAN cable
  3. RJ45 connector
  4. Headphones (2 per computer)
  5. Splitters (1 per computer)
  6. Recommended specification for server machine for up to 15 client machines for smoother
    experience:
    1. i5 Processor
    2. 8GB RAM
    3. 1TB Hard Disk
    4. Latest stable Ubuntu OS (Eg: Ubuntu 18.04)

7.Minimal recommended specification for client machines:

    1. i3 Processor
    2. 4GB RAM
    3. 500GB Hard Disk
    4. OS as per the availability at the computer lab


8.UPS: To avoid problems that may occur due to unexpected electricity power interruptions (at least for server machine)

 

Extra Hardware Requirements specific to teacher professional development (TPD) Workshops (along with the above-listed ones):

  1. Power backup in case of power cuts
  2. Projector   
  3. Wireless Mic
  4. Internet Connection

 

Software Required:- 

  1.  CLIx Installer disk (External Hard Disk)
  2.  Ubuntu installer disk (8GB Pen Drive), Ubuntu latest stable ISO image can be found here:  
     https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop
  3.  Windows multipoint server 2011 installer CD ( In case of zero clients)
  4.  Windows 8 installer (For Stand-alone computer) OR Windows 7 installer (In case of N-computing)
